I like Mark Leckey’s work. He is an artist based in London. He has a performance coming up to conincide with his exhibition at The Sepentine Gallery – its called BigBoxStatueAction (2003-2011), and it consists of Leckey placing one of his soundsystems ‘in conversation’ with a modernist sculpture. I think he wants a response from the sculpture, so he serenades it with a sound piece created from bits of sampled music and archive material – I like thinking about everyone standing listening to the sounds Leckey is making, anticipating a reaction from the cold modernist sculpture, and how no matter how hard he tries, the sculpture won’t reveal its thoughts.
