Laura Spring: I believe Artlink has a huge benefit to the individuals we work with because of it’s unique approach. Working intimately over long periods of time to establish relationships is rare in a workshop environment but completely necessary when working with people with profound learning disabilities. You learn about someone in an unconventional way as exchange and communication is often through other means other than spoken word, so the slightest gesture can become of great significance. It is often about working instinctively and Artlink allows for the time and space for this to develop that isn’t always possible in other areas of life for the people we work with. Staff are encouraged to try new ways of working too and share ideas with us, so that once a workshop is finished those ideas and experiments can grow out with the workshop environment.
